Historically, "Drum Rock" was a trysting-signal
and a meeting place for the Cowesett and Narragansett Indians. The rock is still in place today. It is balanced on two points
and can be easily moved by hand. By rocking the mass, a sound can be made that supposedly could be heard for a distance of
6 or 8 miles. It is believed that this rock was used by the Indians to warn others of danger and to call people together.
Drum
Rock School was built in 1971, and a new four-room addition was completed in April, 1998. The school is located in the southwest
corner of the city and serves approximately 310 students in grades K - 6. Our students are bussed from four outlying
areas: Pontiac, Natick, Toll Gate, and Apponaug.
